In 1994, Japanese engineer Masahiro Hara at @denso_official set out to solve a problem on Toyota’s assembly lines: barcodes simply couldn’t hold enough data. His solution was the QR Code : a two-dimensional barcode with a unique finder pattern, capable of storing thousands of characters and scannable from any angle. Denso Wave patented the design but made it free to use, a bold move that unlocked its global spread.

A Malayalam movie, Sthanarthi Sreekuttan, moved hearts—and soon after, moved furniture. Inspired by the film, 300+ schools in Kerala adopted a new PA-shaped (horseshoe) seating arrangement, eliminating the concept of “backbenchers” and bringing every student into view.

But emotion isn’t enough- research must lead the way. A NIH-backed study revealed that while such arrangements don’t boost cognitive performance, they significantly enhance emotional well-being—with a 23% rise in student comfort and 31% more peer interaction.

In a startling comparison, state governments in India are spending less on education R&D than what a single IPL team spends on player auctions. While millions are poured into cricket franchises, the investment in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) education remains disproportionately low in many states.
